Chicopee Woods Golf Course
Elachee is a non-profit environmental education center located in the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve. The visitor center is just off Atlanta Highway and inclues a museum, gardens and access to hiking trails.
We hiked the 4.5 miles trail in February, 2011 and found the coded milage markers easy to follow.The highlight of the trail is crossing the suspension bridge.
The museum is an education center for school children and there is a small fee.
DIRECTIONS FROM ATLANTA: I-85 N to I-985 toward Gainesville. Take Exit 17 and turn left off the ramp onto GA 13 (Atlanta Highway). Turn at the next right and a quick right onto Elachee Drive. Follow Elachee Drive for 1 mile through the golf course, across bridge over I-985 and bear left around curve leading to museum center parking lot.
