We hiked here in July 2015 and it was a great walk through the woods. There is plenty of parking at several trailheads and also a well maintained public restroom at the end of the road.
The hike was fairly easy with a few hills and lovely bridges across boggy areas. We never expected to end up at Bogue Sound near the bridge crossing over to the Emerald Isle. We enjoyed the floating dock and view of the sound and folks kayaing. This is a great hidden gem.
The Coast Guard Road is also a good place to pick up the Emaraled Biking Path. We biked the Emerald Path in July 2015 for 10 miles on a beautiful summer morning. The path runs from the Indian Beach town limits to The Point at Bogue Inlet. We biked through residential areas, wooded areas and busy downtown. There is public parking at several Public Beach Access areas and easy to pick up the biking path.
DIRECTIONS:
From Newport NC travel hwy 24 Turn left onto Hwy 58 to Emerald Isle. Turn right at the first light across the bridge onto Coast Guard Road. Entrance is maybe ¼ mile on right.
